Should we Bless G-d only or should we ask for blessings?

Hey Ronnie,

Thanks for your call today - things are kind of "iffy" right now. I should know if I have to go to the hospital by tomorrow; the 'Mother of all Infections" it seems.

In response to your post, I actually think it's both. We bless HaShem, AND we ask for HIS blessings. Take care pal -

Hope you get better soon.

Using the analogy of my own sons......by their obedience I am blessed, I love to bless them when I know that they seek after my heart. I wonder if this is how "we" bless our father, and in turn how we are blessed! Trying to Bless the father any other way is just giving "lip" service, and I am pretty sure that does not work.

just my two cents

In today's world 2 cents is a lot. I like it. I just wonder if we should only Bless G-d. This from a spiritual perspective.

Just wondering

I've been looking for a news letter that had a great lesson on BLESSING'S so instead I'll tell you a story because I can't find the news letter from Jewish Jewels. I had been working for about 6 years at early morning news paper delivery. Over the years I would look for money on the ground around the college and I found it too! A quarter a penny sometime a 10 or 20 and wallets and purses my wife said I had an eye for money. Donna my wife and I would try to find the owner of the wallets and purses and even cell phones. the kids late at night drink way too much and are careless a few times we even woke up drunks in the cold night air we worried about hypothermia. One day I spotted a black wallet in a apartment driveway. So we played detective and it was easy to call locally to the young mans family home and talked to his father, he told me he his son who was going to college and he had lost his wallet before and wanted to come over and pick up his sons wallet and thanked me so latter on in the morning before I took my nap He came by and we talked I found out He was a contractor and he was on his way to a contract job and he promised he would send his son back to give us a reward. I lay down and start to dream I see a vision of the same man who had just left and was on his way to work i understood and was told by him that he was struggling with bills and did not have a lot of faith in the economy so I talked to him about God being good to us and taking care of us sometimes even unexpectedly and asked if I could pray for him. I prayed and I felt the presence and right away his cell phone rang with a job for him and i woke up I wandered about what God showed me I found that news letter i could not find to share with you the letter taught on blessing and some are given power to bless others so that God might receive a blessing and thanks giving who turns that to Glory to Hashem the reward for us was Round Table

Shalom,
The Hebrew word translated as "bless" is "baraK." It means to kneel or bend the knee. The Hebrew word for "knee" is "berek," another form of the same word. So we see that blessing has something to do with bending the knee.

This is an easy concept if we are talking about us bending our knee to the awesomeness of YHWH, but how does He bend His knee to us?

Being the father of seven children helped me to understand the answer. When one of my small children wants to tell me something, I bend my knee so that I am at the right level to hear him. When one falls down, I bend my knee to pick her up. When I want to give them something special, I bend my knee so that I can see the joy in their eyes when they receive it.

This is how Abba blesses us. He pays attention to His children when we are speaking to Him, when we need Him and when He just wants to give us something special.

Of course we can best bless our Abba by blessing one another. Pay someone else some attention. Help someone. Give someone something special. Then we will all be blessed.
