The Messiah is on his way. There's good news and bad news. The bad news is that a body hasn't been chosen for him yet, so he's still in the spirit realm. The good news is that he now has email, and we can chat online! So, join the discussion.

Shalom, King Messiah. We've been waiting for you for a very long time. Everyone has the same question: when are you coming?

e-Messiah: It's been a very long time for me as well, as I've been in the unfortunate position of watching all that has gone on during the wait. Do you recall the verse in Isaiah 60:22 which says, "I, G-d, will hasten it in its time"? The curious thing about that verse is that it seems to be inherently contradictory. Will it be hastened or will it be in its [preordained] time? The meaning of that verse is that the Messianic Kingdom will be established by a certain date, generally believed to be the end of the 6th millenium. We are approaching the year 5770, so that means that the Kingdom should be established within another 230 years. And, yes, that is still a long wait, especially considering the goings on in the Holy Land. But as to being "hastened," this means that the waiting time will be shortened if we are worthy. If we recognize that there were any number of serious transgressions in the days of the Second Temple, and that none of the transgressions were the cause of the Temple's destruction and the subsequent prolonged exile, except the sin of sinat chinam, we have a guide as to how the restoration will occur. Sinat chinam means "baseless hatred" for one another. So there's a lot that can be done to move things along more quickly. Let's replace baseless hatred with baseless love, recognizing that each of us is a product of his or her unique background and learning. Let's not blame G-d for the delay. Let's see what people who believe in Him have the power to do.

Hey e-messiah.....Shalom, chaverim.

"Let's replace baseless hatred with baseless love, recognizing that each of us is a product of his or her unique background and learning."

Great Idea.....lets do it!
{e-messiah role playing by Miriam} I thought it would be a good idea to add this disclaimer at the beginning since some people are nervous that e-messiah is a ghost or some other scary entity. It's really just me, projecting what the messiah might say if he had the opportunity to communicate with us these days. I'm trying to keep it biblical and maybe with an interfaith flair. So hang in and enjoy, or feel free to delete.

Miriam: King Messiah, if the Temple was destroyed because of baseless hatred and, as the rabbis say, if we do not deserve to have the Temple rebuilt in our generation, it is as if we were the generation in which it was destroyed, how are we to know what must be done to rectify this problem? Greater generations of sages have lived before the present age, and we are further away in our levels of holiness. Is it as hopeless as it seems?

e-messiah: For sure, it doesn't look good. Not only is there still baseless hatred among Jews, but it is pretty widespread between Israel and the nations. As for all types of ignorance, the solution is education. People need to stop looking at "the other guy" hoping he will improve and rise up to his or her level, and to start recognizing the problems from within. Rabbi Mordechai Weiss published an article in the March 13, 2009, issue of The Jewish Press (which I believe is available online at www.JewishPress.com ), and I'd like to refer to some of what was said in the article entitled, "Unity, Not Separateness."

"It is almost an acceptable pattern among our people that there always must be one-upmanship. 'I'm frummer [more religious] than you! ... I only eat super glatt...I don't allow my children to associate with any child who has a TV or computer in their home!' We tend to justify and idealize this division with pride, attributing these tendencies as excusable, for it demonstrates a higher level of kedushah (holiness). But is this really the case? Are we supposed to be exclusionary? There is no question in my mind that unity and common respect between Jews is much more vital than the chumrahs (stringencies) that separate one Jew from the next. If the ultimate end of adopting a chumrah separates one Jew from the next, we should dispose of the chumrah in the interest of promoting accord and peace among our people."

True ahavas Yisrael will work wonders in bringing about the Kingdom of G-d on earth. Yet it cannot stop there. Isaiah speaks of the role of Israel as a Light unto the Nations and in fact states that the nations will seek the Messiah (Isaiah 11:10). They aren't exactly seeking the Messiah at this time, nor are many looking to Israel for enlightenment. This needs to change, and it has to be done through education. True, billions of people would like to have a messiah here, but have no idea what the messianic age is about. And most of the non-Jews are convinced that they need to be in the position of being a Light Unto Israel instead of the other way around. So this is going to take time and effort, and most of all, an approach filled with brotherly love, mutual respect, and a sincere desire to fulfill the will of G-d. The Torah will go forth from Zion. So it has to begin within Israel. The Torah has to go forth to the nations, and those of the nations who seek it and accept it will be blessed.

Dude, where's your donkey?

e-messiah: According to one verse in Isaiah, Messiah will come in his own due time while it is also written that G-d will hasten his coming (which implies before the proper time). The answer given there is,"If we are worthy Messiah will be hastened; if not, he will come at due time. In Daniel, it is written that Messiah will come "with the clouds of heaven" while Zechariah says messiah will come "as a poor man riding a donkey." R. Joshua answers this as,"If we are meritorious, he will come on the clouds of heaven (swiftly). If not, he will come like a poor man on a donkey (very slowly)." The essence of our prayers is that Redemption come swiftly, not slowly.

So to identify the Messiah requires this. If his coming in a natural manner,"like a poor man riding a donkey." Then his identity needs to be verified. But if we merit, and he comes swiftly, with the clouds of heaven,i.e.: miraculously, there will be no need for clues or evidence that he is the true Messiah.

e-messiah: Jewish legend posits the messiah as waiting in the heavens for an opportunity to establish the Kingdom of G-d on earth and bring about the redemption. In fact, there are 7 spirits which comprise the messianic spirit and which will be placed within the man chosen to become the King Messiah. Isaiah 11:1 mentions them: "And the spirit of G-d shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of G-d."

Shalom Miriam Levinson Any relation to Hezekiah? John chapter one verse one In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All thing were made by him; and without him was not any thin made that was made. In light of this I think the e-messiah is a worth while endeavor

Hi Miriam - aka E-messiah,

So in terms of seven spirits mentioned here (Ref. Isaiah 11:1) are we to understand this to mean actual free floating spirits as such, or rather are these a spirit of something ie 'she/he has a courageous spirit that just won't quit' - not actaully meaning a seperate spirit from the person indwelling in them but rather referencing a personality trait or aspect of someones being?
Just trying to get a grip on what way we are using/referencing the terms here.
Thanks.
