I have a small business inside of a market. The market is open on the Sabbath. I had originally insisted on being closed on the sabbath. My mother and another person-not Sabbath keepers have volunteered to work on Saturdays for me. Is this wrong? Please provide scripture with your answer.

One brother started prospering once he switched to the Lunar Sabbath; now he is able to attend the auctions on Saturday, and buy fantastic items at dimes on the dollar.
Permalink Reply by Tamla Boone on December 21, 2011 at 5:07am Thank you, Ted. I was just wondering because, she wouldn't keep the Sabbath anyway. But is it because, I would cause her to work for my specific business, I am responsible?
Permalink Reply by Ted Walther on December 21, 2011 at 10:35pm I think so. I don't go to restaurants on the Sabbath (although I slip up sometimes) for that reason.

Exodus 20:8-11
Little Sister, There's something else I must put on the table for your consideration. To Whom was the Sabbath day given? To Whom were instructions, detailed ones, given in order to properly KEEP this very special day? I once went to a very observant Rabbi who suggested that I was actually acknowledging the day of rest but I wasn't under any obligation to KEEP IT as the Jews were expected to do. You see, in the scriptures, one who didn't KEEP it correctly had to face some serious activities for failing to KEEP the Sabbath Day. Remember what happened to the folks who were picking up food on the 7th day. Bad News. BUT, since, according to a very observant CHABAD Rabbi, righteous gentiles aren't obligated to KEEP but they may choose to acknowledge and to work or not to work. NOW, should they CONVERT then, that's a horse of a different color, eh? Don't want to upset folks but I'm not a Jew but I'm considered a righteous gentile and welcomed to participate in alot of activities at CHABAD but keeping the Sabbath is not permitted unless I take the step toward conversion. Should you have more questions regarding the subject the CHABAD Rabbis can help and are willing to do so. As a Hasidic Gentile who loves G-d and Torah, I want to fulfill the purpose for which I was born and to make a difference by acts of good deeds and kindness. Yell, if I didn't make you upset. You may close your shop if your please but you don't have to, according to many observant sources.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a contentious note, I love the way you reference scripture. I am not Jewish either and while your comment makes a lot of sense, I don't think it serves my purpose. I am certainly not upset...but I do tend to stay away from rabbinic advice, it sometimes leans on the unscriptural side. God made the Sabbath way before Judah became it's own entity. Since my identity is lost, I will just assume I am descendant to some tribe. Would you do me a favor...would you take this scripture back to your Rabbi ask him what it means (Exodus 12:49), " (One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.' Thanks again for your comment.
Hi Tamla,
I am new to SWW and agree with you on the importance of holding rabbinic teaching up to the filter of Scripture in order to distinguish instruction by man from instruction by God.
Like you, at times I've felt a little alone and have questions about my identity. I remember my grandmother who was from the Philippines telling me her mother was from Portugal. While my mom thinks I'm crazy, I think my great grandmother could have been Jewish...that would help explain the pull I've always felt to the Jewish people and more recently, Hebrew. I'm intrigued by the mention of "ger" in the Bible and who a ger is. Abraham used the word to refer to himself as a sojourner when he spoke to the children of Heth in Gen 23:4 גֵּר-וְתוֹשָׁב אָנֹכִי The psalmist in 119:19 says he is a sojourner on this earth: גֵּר אָנֹכִי בָאָרֶץ While I have this yearning to know about my ancestry and roots, this I do know--I am one in the body of Messiah.
btw, I agree with Ted's comment about your Sabbath observance as it relates to your mother.
Thanks
No offense Tamla but I must comment to Marcus, I do was TOLD by the Holy Spirit {To get up and find out who you are}. I to have went digging into my family, come to find out, I would be Jewish by my father. Like you, I have always felt a pull towards Jewish people and had already followed some customs, that I was either unaware or once introduced felt right! But Tamla, I would follow the conviction of your heart, if it feels wrong, don't to it, especially if you concur with Ted.
Peace be with you;

Permalink Reply by rimmon 24 on December 29, 2011 at 9:14pm Tamla, I beleive that we ARE NOT to work on the sabbath as Torah states, nor cook, nor buy/sell anything to make money, we are to study, rest, and fellowship with like-minded believers. We must come our of Babylon, pagan world system, and to be seperate. We are not to work on the feastival days either. We will be blessed when we are obedient to Torah. alot of ppl consider this a controversial topic, but i think it is pretty clear in Torah. I dont go rabbinical, like not turning on light switch ect. But we can help someone out on the sabbath as long as there is no money involved. We cant go to restrauants, etc, because we are forcing others to work on the sabbath.
Once the Ruach Ha Kodesh reveals these scriptural truths to you it will be easier.

That is the sweetest thing I have ever heard. I hope YHWH thinks the same way.
Thanks!
