Permalink Reply by Mike Clark on May 7, 2009 at 8:55pm Hi Mike, how goes it? What a great topic to start, bro;good job.
I guess the first point to cover is what does Judaism say about what you refer to as salvation or being "born again".
In Judaism, when one sincerely repents of what he has done wrong and makes the proper ammends for it such as charity and goes to the mikvah (ritual bath), he is clean. Everthing past is gone.Commentary on it says it is though you were born again when you repent with a pure heart. Sound familar? Even when not repenting, there are circumstance we go to the mikvah for purification. Some go daily, some go before holidays like Yom Kippur, women are supposed to go after marital relations or their monthly cycle. Yom Kippur is the major day of repentence ,but we pray to be pardoned for sins three times a day, in the morning shemoneh esri and in the amidahs in the afternoon and evening service.Yes,we have services seven days a week, three times a day, not just Shabbos.
Look at all the promises to Israel in the Messianic Age; restoration to the land, eternal life, no sickness, no war, the eternal Temple with G-d dwelling among us. That sound like salvation to you? How does a Jew achieve life in the World to Come?
Ezek:18:9: Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord GOD.
If ancestors broke with Torah, but you return to observance:
Ezek:18:19: Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.
Ezek:18:17: That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.
If a Jew repents from falling away from Torah:
Ezek:18:21: But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
Ezek:18:22: All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.
Ezek:18:27: Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.
Ezek:18:28: Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
And this is just a few verses out of Ezekiel. This post would have been to long to list all the verses in the Tanakh that tells us.
Look at your own Christian book. What is John called the Baptist doing? Telling people to repent. Why? He is saying the Kingdom of G-d (Messianic Age) is coming. What is Jesus doing? Telling people to repent and follow Torah. Why? Because of his hope he would be the one to bring about the Messianic Age. Granted I don't believe the Greek text, but it says nothing there that opposes the Tanakh, as far as what John and Jesus were preaching. You're right about most of the book not going along with the Tanakh though. Having the church graft in verses to back up their theology in later centuries didn't help either.
Then you have Paul, the self proclaimed apostle to the Gentiles. A man that never set eyes on Jesus beyond a self claimed "vision". A man that was called before the Jerusalem council to investigate charges he was teaching against Torah and convinced the original that he was, then went out teaching against the law of Moses and contradicting the prophets. One of the major ones is below:
On the subject of sacrifice,Paul's book of Hebrews states that Jesus is the final sacrifice.
Heb:10:12: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
This clearly contradicts what it says in the Prophets.Ezekiel's prophesy of the Eternal Temple and the re-establishment of the sacrifices, including sin sacrifice
Ezek:37:26: Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore.
Ezek:45:17: And it shall be the prince's part to give burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and drink offerings, in the feasts, and in the new moons, and in the sabbaths, in all solemnities of the house of Israel: he shall prepare the sin offering, and the meat offering, and the burnt offering, and the peace offerings, to make reconciliation for the house of Israel.
Then there are other "fishy" statements that Paul makes.
He claims that he grew up at the feet of Gamaliel. Acts 22:3. I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day. The only problem there is Gamaliel was a teacher of higher learning, not children. Jewish education starts at age three. There is no way he was " brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel".
Then there is his claim of being a Pharasee. The Pharasaic sects and the Saducee were totally opposite in their beliefs as far as after life,a coming messiah, ect. The Saducee believed ONLY in the Torah and didn't accept any of the Prophets. Both considered each other as heretics, YET , Paul was working as a henchman for the Saducee when first introduced in the book.
Also in the Psalms is says that the LORD is OUR SALVATION (Yahshua)
Salvation & the Redemption of Israel- is synonymous-I think????????????????
Peter, was the rock upon which HIS church was established. Pedro in Spanish )one form) Peter English, Perez (and other variations) eastern Hebrew/Judiac and spanish variation.
Permalink Reply by ruchamah lovell on March 8, 2012 at 10:18pm Heyas Mike, great qwestion! I think the answer is pretty easy too. In John 3, there is the discussion between Nico and Yeshua. Yeshua seems disgusted that Nico doesnt understand this concept, as Moshe taught it.
Which would be harder for YOU to do:
1. be born again
2. circumcise your heart
You cannot do either of them! Both of these are works of the Almighty, I think in response to our faith. Truly, salvation is by faith, faith in the promises of G-d!
Berachot,
Ruchamah
In Pslams it also says that the LORD is our Yeshua/SALVATION
There is much in a NAME
In the Tenakh-always HaShem gave meaningful names to certain People- like MOSES that exactly described them or their Mission or Purpose-MOSES was taken from the Water
REDEMPTION & SALVATION are Very Similiar. It could be a Matter of Semantics & Translation into English- but you must admit that the NAME SALVATION or YESHUA-tells His Purpose-if G-d named Him!!!!!!! It's a Matter of FAITH & Also Revelation from the Rauch-you cannot understand the Word of G-d without the Interpretation from the Rucah Ha Kodesh
We ALL get into Trouble when we lean to our own interpretation coming from our own Intellect or Knowledge!

YES-We worship HaShem because HE is our Savior. The Point that I was making is that the Father's Son was to do HIS Business-The SON is the Representative on Earth for the Will of the Father-which is what Yeshua always said-that He saw the Father before him always & did what the Father did-& was Obedient to His Will!
