Last year I attended my first UIWU conference. I must have received an invitation as a result of having purchased one of James' books I suppose. I certianly didn't know what to expect nor did I have any idea about Lost Tribes and such. I was intrigued by James' own story and how he had been drawn back to Jerusalem some years ago, and had discovered a possible connection for himself as perhaps of the lineage of one of the Lost Tribes. Having heard the call he explored possible organizations in the US that might help him on his spiritual quest. And lo and behold this brought him in touch with the man who was to have a profound impact on him, David Horowitz.
I was impressed enough with James' story to want to read David's autobiograohy, Thirty Three Candles. I'm always fascinated to see how one life touches another; the sinergy of those relationships and so forth, and what any of that might mean for me. I read this book with an open mind. I wasn't interested in becoming a Jew, but I was curious about how David might experience a reunion with his brother, his brother from the Lost Tribe. When I read about this encounter my heart soared. It was indeed a moment of grace, and there was no doubt that the hand of Divine providence had arranged it all. It certainly seemed that way for David. For me, this reunion represents the "first seed" of what this oragnization was to become. Joseph maintained his true identity. He didn't seek to become Jewish, he knew who he was and he was aware of the lineage that was his legacy. Here are just a few words from David about his brother Joseph:-
"I met the very man who became the first really active helper in the prosecution of my labors, a beloved soul, who did more than anyone else to bring me towards my goal." (the goal of founding UIWU) "I will call him Joseph - and he was indeed a Jospeh to me: The Jospeh in this story."
"I asked Jehovah to send me a helper. There must be at least one who would understand." I said. "I besought Jehovah to inspirit a worthy man with a vision or a dream that would convey to him the great significance of the work and cause him to come to my assistance."
"And lo and behold Ellie Southard, who herself had aided much, had been moved to tell another member of the Rosecrucian Order, all about the Jerusalem work. This other member was Joseph.....the month of April was yet again to prove to be significant."
"The greatest financial assistance for the work came from Jospeh."
"The most important thing....was that I could count on one friend - Jospeh."
"The beautiful friendship between Joseph and myself grew from day to day. To me Jospeh was indeed like the ancient Joseph of Egypt - a Godly man possessed with wisdom and counsel and always ready to aid all who were in need."
"I knew Joseph as my brother in Israel.....because in all my friendship and experiences with Joseph, never once did he show any spirit of insincerity or lack of understanding of the noble and historic work of Moses. All his actions with the Society and me were in purity. I feel that we all will ever feel a sense of the greatest love and respect for and brotherhood toward Joseph."

I know you have since found more about him, his life, and some of his ideas and teachings. It was a special moment for David at a very critical and vulnerable time. Unfortunately, as you know, due to the behavior of Moses Guibbory, the alliance between Horowitz, Joseph, and the famous Boake Carter, was ruptured. One can only wonder how things would have otherwise gone, but it seems both David and Joseph landed on their feet, surviving their break with Moses.
