beer and wine

Something I ran into while researching different areas of my consumptions......

I was amazed to find out that the use of animal products were in some wine and beers.

Any one else here heard of this?

Eye opening website. Too bad they aren't listing my favorite Canadian micro-breweries. Maybe I should talk to the local vegan activists and have them push the state liquor stores to post that sort of info. Someone else recently posted that they are using pig-hoof gelatin in some wines???

Hi David,

I don't know how true it is, but we were told that many of the non-kosher red wines have animal blood in them. The purpose for it was to enhance the color and for something else that I have no recollection what that was (sorry). The person who told us that is a Messianic believr who grows grapes and produces his own wine.

Did the believer say anything about the wine kits? Lots of people locally buy the grape juice directly and ferment it into wine. I worked on the grape press during the summer, and can tell you that no blood is added to the grapes that are crushed for those Italian plumbers and Portuguese brick-layers.

And yes, I think I saw the same post about the blood in the wine. Someone put it in my INBOX, but I don't know where to dig up the post again.

Some googling does show that bulls blood USED to be used to clarify wine in France and Italy. It is against EU regulations now. Although two years ago, there was a scandal in France when it looked like bulls blood was being used after all by some smaller wineries.

It Just goes to show you.....its always something!

It seems that some wine and beer producers use bone shavings to filter out yeast and other solids from the process. As I am sure bones and such are readily available on the cheap. EU pretty much stopped the process with the mad cow disease that they are fighting. and Peta (?) is working in the states to stop this. awwwww .
