Kindling a Fire on the Sabbath

Is it acceptable to cook on the Sabbath? Can one light a fire or even maintain a fire on the Sabbath?Exodus 35:3 says, "You shall not kindle a fire throughout your habitations upon the Sabbath day." Some say that this verse indicates that we are not allowed to light a fire and therefore not allowed to cook on the Sabbath. Others say that this verse is given in the context of the instructions for building the tabernacle immediately following the verse. Are there any other verses to support one…See More

Ten Commandments Numbering in the Masoretic Text

The ten commandments, or ten words/sayings, in the bible have been represented by different religions in several different ways. Here is a breakdown as shown on wikipedia:In the Hebrew text of Exodus 20, there are either spaces left between sections of text representing a break, or a hebrew letter taking the place of these spaces in more condensed texts. These letters are the samech (looks almost like an o) for a small break, and the peh [pay] (looks like a capital G rotated 180 degrees) for a…See More

Shalom!

This picture (to the left) was taken in Israel in November of 2008. We were planting olive trees in an organic farm in the Negev.

I am married to my husband, Kent (he has a page on here, too!), and am the mother of seven, which we homeschool. I also work from home as a structural engineer, designing framing for houses and small commercial projects.

My foremost area of study in scripture is the feasts and the calendar. I have been studying the dead sea scrolls (essene) calendar for about three years. The calendar is posted at http://www.wholebible.com/Commentary.htm#Dead_Sea_Scrolls_Calendar

Looking for friends zealous for the Torah!

Shalom in Yeshua,
Shari

This is the merging of all four gospels in the King James Version (because it is public domain), aligning related verses from each gospel writer. Words are underlined to show that the grouped verses are related. Words are in large, bold print to express timing of events. All…

Yeshua, Prisoner For Ten Days

Revelation 2:10 tells us that some of us will be cast into prison, be tried, and have tribulation for ten days. We are to be faithful unto death. This doesn't necessarily mean that we will die; we just must be faithful up to that point. Some may die, some may not, but either way, after ten days…

Chanukah and the sin of Jeroboam

The following is a study I did on Chanukah and why I concluded that the children of Israel SHOULD NOT be celebrating it...

In Leviticus 23, we receive a list of instructions concerning the feast of Tabernacles, also known as the feast of Sukkot or the feast of Booths. Among the list of instructions, YHWH declares, "You shall celebrate it in the seventh month."

In 1 Kings 12, once the nation of Israel split into two kingdoms, the Northern Kingdom of Israel and the Southern… Continue

Wow...I never heard about any conference in Ocala...oh well. What congregation was the conference at? But yes the weather is pretty good here now...but I am NOT a fan of the extreme heat of the summer. I would like to move farther north one day to have the four seasons. Good to hear from you...blessings!!

Shalom Shari, (I like the way that sounds),

I am writing to thank you in advance for working on the Triennial Cycle with Ross. This Idea of syncing up with the potential reading cycle that was being used during the 1st century (true or false...?) was/is one of the main attractions, for me, to attend Ross' teaching at Temple Sinai. While I still am interested in this concept, (linking up the gospel according to John's Gospel account), I soon found the subject WAY over my head!....

Yes I do live in "Pride" Louisiana....and hopefully can justify this by mentioning the name of the Road I live on....Liberty Rd!...Also the Zip numbers are 70770. :~) shalom, dave

Shari,

I like the blog. To be honest I did not realize that everyone could have their own blog. The more I think about it, I may need your help on something. Surely you can squeeze in one more project:)

With your studies in the calendar you are probably one that could help me crack the mysterious triennial cycle of Torah Readings that was used in 1st Century Israel....more later, shalom, Ross

Shalom Shari,
you really are a busy beaver. Architect / Engineer / Wife / Mother of 7 / olive picker / Time and calender student. I am getting RSI just writing it all.
You have my admiration.
Also what a blessing to have an architect that understands structural design.
The love / hate relationship between both professions is well known.
I also believe that both disciplines are a must which I implement in my practice.
Truely the blue print for the future temple has already been designed by the Almighty. He is writing the specifications on our hearts.
When Mashiach comes with the signed building contract ,construction will commence.
Greater Israel ( from the Nile brook to the Euphrates ) will be the biggest building site on Earth to house the returning Olim.
May we merit being part of the design and construct team.

Shalom
JOE.

Shalom Shari,
welcome from the land down under.
I too have an affinity for the land and olives. Whilst I lived in Sicily olive harvest time on my grandfather's farm was always a special time.
Now that I have found the path to "emet" and am exploring the background of my ancestors in Sicily, it is my vision to do aliyah to Eretz h'Chodesh with many of my Israeli friends and extended family and community here in Australia.
Who knows, being an architect by profession we may one day work on the same project in Israel with you being the structural engineer :-)
Thank you for your insights on time.

Shalom
JOE.

Hello Shari......I enjoyed reading some on you blog concerning when the day begins. I have always felt "its a new day" at sunrise, although I can see how it could be said that the day ends at sunset, the tradition of Sabbath being evening to evening has me wondering lately. Any way...these are the kind of thoughts that got me to this site in the first place, sooooo Welcome to the SSW and i may open a forum discussion on "when does the Sabbath start". I'm trying not to rock the boat....just leaning over somewhat dave

HI I love your picture.....what group did you go to? I have been to Israel several time but have only been to the negev a few. I generally go and volunteer for a congregation north of Haifa called Tents of Mercy. One year as I was volunteering with the youthgroup we went on a two day retreat in the negev with the youth from all over the country. It was a lot of fun! I would love to hear more about your work with the Dead sea scrolls..........what did you use for resources to study them?
