If you observe a candle burning as I like to do, it seems to be burning up towards the heavens.....I have always took this as a symbol of our work, what ever it may be, showing a light that in part helps others and ourselves to take the time to reflect.
I have used the expression "burning from both ends" as a way to quickly describe working too much. Burning out.......WELL, In doing most of my work, I have always had to deal with well meaning people trying to shape how and what I do, (how I burn) what ever the task. Is this a lack of leadership on my part or just a character flaw (easy going or a non combatant attitude that doesn't like to rock the boat)? As a candle must burn freely to fulfill its true destiny, so we must be allowed to operate as we know we must. Of course wisdom dictates that we are not alone on this planet and should seek guidance and advise from others......,but to burn free! Thats what I want! Even perhaps from both ends.

David, you're ok. There's always going to be well meaning people in our lives who try to help us, but from their perspective. We can listen and filter. Sometimes when we latch onto something in our studies, a new realization or concept for example, we run with it and incessantly investigate. (I do anyway) What we find out and realize during this journey can be exhausting because it leads to more questions that need answering, more investigation. Seeking truths plus living can take a toll because I'm constantly doing both, but this is what G-d wants us to do. I came out of christianity 3 years ago and I'm probably way behind most people in this group, but I'm sprinting to catch up. What is also surreal to me (sometimes I feel as if I'm in a different world) is walking among people who I know for a fact are not where they need to be, my kids, parents, co-workers, and the general population included. But yet, they don't understand fully where I'm coming from. All of the above, study, family, other people, and work, are flames. I burn my candle (thanks be to G-d) the way I want to, sometimes at both ends, in life and study. So, burn free David.

Sandra,

You are meant to be on this path. All one has to do is read your posts to see your heart. You are one of HaShem's. I will be praying for you. The flame might be low, but the spark is still there. It just needs a little wind from the Ruach HaKodesh to ignite into a full blown flame again. Feel free to email me at any time...kimalvarado3265@gmail.com.

I hear what you are saying but I don't think that you burn out so much as realize that what you have been following is, in the end, nothing but straw, in other words you're not burning out but the thing, the group, the path that you though was so real burns out. I don't think that I said that you have to "know" that what ever you do is divinely inspired. Dave, what I have observed is that the ego initially take on a religious identity and as such the ego is trying to find its place, its calling, its rasion d'etre or place of importance. Well meaning people with their own religious egos come along and try to help out, guide and direct, but since it's more often than not ego directed it doesn't usually amount to much other than offense and disappointment. The spiritual journey is towards the discovery of the "I AM" nature. When you become aware of this everything you do is divinely inspired....it's who you are and you can't escape it or fall short of it. You could be cutting wood, tending to a baby, feeding the dog or writing a book....it is all occurring within the reality of Hashem, in and through the divine name, the divine presence. What I hear in your writing is a search for truth that has not yet been realized, but since your desire is so authentic and your intensity so real, I feel sure you will get there. You may want to pray that G-d brings across your path a teacher who has already found what you are looking for as only such a person can take you there, and even then it's very difficult. It takes a lot of courage and single-mindedness.

Exactly Joanna.....You are correct in saying that one has to "know" that what ever it is that one is to do is divinely inspired. This is where the training comes in! Great comment.....thks.

As far as no comments.....Well, yes I always wonder that question! I was figuring that I seem to alienate folks. Unless some one says something to me.....then I will not know.

The meat of the blog is "burning out". I tend to go way over board in whatever it is that I am doing and unless I see a "divine" hand in it will eventuality either Burn out or just stop cold. So even doing what one is "called" to do, if not done in the right manor or timing could develop into ashes......and usualy well meaning friends or coworkers will attempt to step in and "quide". This is not always the case and sometimes it IS a matter of someone helping or advising that brings a task to development.

Well I guess no one commented on this Dave - I wonder why that is? So, you are saying that no one seems to want to allow you to "burn free" and then you ask the question, Is this a character flaw? All I can tell you is that it takes the divine attribute of "courage" to do what you want to do. The authority is within you, in the voice of your heart......you have to train your ear to hear it, trust it and act on it, then you will have mastered equanimity and you'll be free.
