As there has been much said about Zionism on the site lately, perhaps those involved would take a few moments to define just what they mean by the term. This simple exercise could go a long way toward alleviating any misunderstandings.
When using the term Zionism, one must be careful to define what is actually meant by the usage. A quick scan of any reputable source reveals that there are many aspects to this complex subject. Is it nationalist Zionism, or religious Zionism, or liberal Zionism or labor party Zionism that is meant? Are those zealous for the Land of Israel correctly termed Zionists? Should the term be reserved only for those whose fanaticism for their homeland has perhaps clouded their better judgment?
I offer these questions as a means of encouraging meaningful dialogue on this subject while attempting to avoid the generalizations and stereotypical prejudices that can too easily ensue. As always, the utmost respect of others and their convictions must be exercised. While open, honest discussion is highly encouraged, this should never be considered as license to unnecessarily cause affront to others. Although this may not be one's intention, when terms are not clearly defined, this can all too often be the unfortunate result.
